Three years of commitment: Begoma’s support for Ukraine
February 24, 2025, marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Over these three years, the world has witnessed immense challenges and hardships, but also extraordinary resilience and solidarity. At Begoma, we are proud to have been an active partner to Swedish, Ukrainian and European companies during this turbulent time.
From the very beginning of the invasion in February 2022, Begoma made an immediate decision—not to withdraw, but to strengthen our presence in Ukraine. While many businesses were closing their offices in Ukraine, we took the opposite approach.
– Following the invasion, logistics services between Ukraine and rest of the world were disrupted and operations ceased at many established supply routes. We wanted to do the opposite, says the Managing Director Henrik Malmberg.
In 2022, we established our own company with dedicated staff in Ukraine. By October that year, our company was officially registered in a Kyiv court, solidifying our long-term commitment.
Hardships and obstacles
Operating in a country during war has, of course, come with significant challenges. We have had customers whose factories have been shelled, and we have endured disruptions caused by protest at the border. But despite these difficulties, our business has continued to grow, and we have seen increasing interest from Swedish and European companies.
Today, our team in Ukraine consists of four people—though in reality, we are five. One of our employees has been called to the front lines, a stark reminder of the reality that Ukraine faces every day.
Our presence in Ukraine has enabled us to act as a bridge between Ukrainian and Swedish businesses. Through our established freight service between Sweden and Ukraine—a route we have operated for many years—we have ensured continuous trade flows.
– We help companies navigate the Ukrainian market, through our local connections. You can see us as a partner, not just a transport company, says Henrik Malmberg.
Not just a business decision
Parallel to opening our office in Ukraine, we have also been involved in humanitarian efforts. Since the beginning of the war, we have supported numerous aid organizations by transporting a wide range of essential goods to Ukraine.
As we mark three years since the start of the war, Begoma remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s future—both in rebuilding the country and in strengthening its integration with Europe. We are honored to stand by our partners in Ukraine and will continue to do so in the years ahead, believing in the potential of Ukrainian manufacturing industry integration in EU markets.
– This was never just a business decision — it is a commitment to Ukraine. It’s about doing the right thing, says Henrik Malmberg.
