Without transportation and logistics, global trade would come to a halt. In turn, that would mean no more construction, no more fully stocked shelves at the grocery store and no more crucial infrastructure being built. That is a world few would wish to see.
At the same time, the impact on the climate being made each day from the global transportation and logistics sector cannot be swept under the rug. At Begoma, we are convinced that transportation and logistics can be done in ways that are more friendly to the climate and our environment – without hindering crucial supply chains.
This is how we want to operate.
Our sustainability strategy
Let’s face it. The transportation and logistics sector has for a long time been part of the problem when it comes to climate change. Constituting around a fourth of the global CO2 emissions each year, the entire sector has a long way to go before the total climate impact has decreased to desirable levels.
As a part of the problem, Begoma has a steadfast aim to become a part of the solution. One major step in working to reach this goal is our decision to cut our emissions from fossil road transports in half by 2030. An ambitious goal in itself, but a possible one, thanks to our sustainability strategy.
With our strategy, we are reviewing and improving our existing customer transports in regard to climate emissions, improving loading efficiency even further and shifting the composition of our transport modes. Steering away from fossil road transport dominating the setup to make more room for road transport with biofuel, electric road transport, rail transport, intermodal and sea transport.
Begoma and “Agenda 2030”
The global goals for 2030 are commonly referred to as “Agenda 2030” or “the Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs). The initiative was adopted by world leaders at the United Nations in September 2015.
Agenda 2030 is regarded as the most ambitious plan for sustainable development ever adopted globally. All countries have committed to achieving these goals by 2030, which entails a collective responsibility to create a more equitable, sustainable, and better world.

How does Begoma work with sustainability right now?
We are always working on lowering the climate impact of our transport and logistics services. Here you can find the different ways Begoma as a company make conscious decisions that will impact your transports in a positive way.
Ambitious sustainability strategy. With clearly defined goals and a step by step roadmap, we are aiming towards a sharp decrease in climate emissions from our transports by 2030.
Expertise in rail freight and intermodal. With specific expertise in the more sustainable modes of transportation, such as rail and intermodal, we can customize solutions for our customers that result in a lower climate impact than the alternatives.
Transparency regarding climate data. Each month we provide our customers with a detailed overview of the climate emissions from each transport taken through Begoma. This data both help our customers make more informed decisions and is necessary for regulatory reporting purposes.
Advisory role for our customers. Combining our expertise and the collection of detailed climate data we take on an advisory role towards our customers. In the end, the mode of transportation is up to them – but we make informed recommendations, based on which solutions that will have the lowest possible climate impact.
