A positive outlook: Growth is coming

For Henrik Malmberg, Managing Director at Begoma, the second half of 2024 is set to be characterized by three things: growth, sustainability and skills. We asked him to explain further what he thinks of the months to come – and how the logistics sector can improve.

– I believe that the second half of 2024 will be strongly characterized by growth in the West. At Begoma, we have a very positive outlook towards the future, and are looking forward to an even higher demand of more sustainable transportation solutions, says Henrik Malmberg.

As the Managing Director of Begoma, he emphasizes that in a world where expertise in sustainability for the logistics sector will be crucial – Begoma has had both the knowledge and capacity to deliver for several years.

– As of today, transportation by rail is the most sustainable solution for most types of freight. However, creating reliable transports by rail through Europe can be quite complex, and requires more knowledge and experience from the logistics companies. At Begoma, this has been a top priority for quite some time now.

An emphasis on skills

Maintaining a high level of expertise amongst the employees at Begoma is another focus for the coming year. Recently, Begoma has invested in leadership training for every middle level manager in the company – a move to further strengthen the professionalism throughout the whole organization.

– Begoma has been on a trajectory of growth since its inception. For 25 years our average annual growth has been around 10% and we have taken leaps and bounds in terms of scale since we started as a small company back in Malmö, Sweden. To future-proof the company and position ourselves advantageously for the coming years, investing in our people is of crucial importance.

Henrik Malmberg hopes that the logistics sector as a whole will put an even further emphasis on talent and expertise in the future.

– There is a lack of highly skilled employees in the sector, especially when it comes to complex transportation solutions that requires know-how of different regions with different laws and regulations. We are fortunate to have the employees that we do and value their great skills and expertise. But we also acknowledge that we need to be alert to maintain this high level.

One way that Begoma nurtures talent amongst the workforce is through internships and trainee programs. With hands-on experience, new potential employees learn on the job. Henrik also praises the academia and its efforts to deepen the theoretical knowledge in all types of logistics.

– We appreciate all the initiatives within the educational field that aims to increase the skills and knowledge in our sector. It will surely be needed in the years to come.
