Begoma’s 2025: 6 months review

We are halfway through 2025. A year filled with hard work and exciting new developments for Begoma. Managing Director, Henrik Malmberg, gives his three main takeaways from the year so far.

As is custom here at Begoma, Henrik Malmberg gives his “State of the Company” address twice a year. With June behind us, it is once again time to hear what he has to say about where Begoma stands, and which exciting projects are in the pipeline.

Cautious optimism

After a time of stagnated growth in several European sectors and countries, signs of recovery are popping up. During the first six months of 2025, Begoma has increased the volume of transports of basic and raw materials (such as steel and timber).

– We know, historically, that these goods are reliable growth indicators. When we transport more of these goods, it is usually a sign that investments in general are on the upturn. This gives us hope for the near future that the export and growth will increase even further, says Henrik Malmberg.

Begoma’s sustainability strategy

A dominating theme for Begoma during the first half of 2025 has to do with our sustainability work. In May, we adopted our very first sustainability strategy and launched our ambitious goal of cutting our CO2 emissions from road transport in half, by 2030.

– I am the first to say that formulating our goals and action plan for our sustainability work probably should have been done years ago. That said, our goals are ambitious, and we now have a concrete and achievable plan for how to reach them. I am proud of what we are doing, says Henrik Malmberg.

Exciting developments regarding sustainability are happening all over the transport and logistics sector as a whole. Tests with trailer side skirts, biofuels and electric trucks are driving a sector wide development for more climate efficient transportation. More on this in the future, no doubt.

European integration for Ukraine

In February, we highlighted the three year mark of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and in turn Begoma’s commitment to the country’s further integration with Europe.

Begoma keeps developing transportation between Ukraine and Europe and our office in Kyiv has taken on an even greater role in coordinating transports within the EU. As an example, our newly opened railway service between Italy and Sweden is operated by our Ukrainian office.

– This is a clear sign of our continued commitment and that integration is happening in the real world, and not just on paper, says Henrik Malmberg.
