2022 in the rear-view mirror

December 23, 2022

What a year we have had! With fantastic drive and outstanding commitment from all the people at Begoma, we can look back on an eventful year with many new projects and encouragingly stable sales. I am deeply impressed by everyone’s efforts and am truly grateful and proud of our work.

In 2022, major global events have affected the entire transport sector, including us. The war in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia have brought new challenges and changes to the logistics flow in Europe. This is why we are very proud to have opened an office in Kyiv, Ukraine. In Kyiv, we can deepen our involvement in the area and, at the same time, support Ukraine’s domestic industry. We are also currently establishing Begoma in Zambia. A physical presence in the region is essential to developing a growing list of contacts and expanding Begoma’s vision. Following the sanctions against Russia, the demand for copper and other metals from other parts of the world has dramatically increased. With our new establishment in Zambia, specifically in northern Zambia known as the Copperbelt, we are directly responding to significant transport needs all the way down to the port city of Durban in South Africa.

We follow and grow with our customers when they expand to new markets. With Begoma’s vast network of knowledge and experience, we can match the market and readily meet customer demand. This year we have hired new talent both in our Swedish offices in Malmö and Gothenburg and our international offices in Swinoujscie and Gdansk in Poland, Tyniste in the Czech Republic, Dordrecht in the Netherlands, Kyiv in Ukraine, and in northern Zambia. Our people build relationships on the ground and offer our clients efficient transport and logistics solutions, small or large, all at competitive prices. The freight market is volatile, and our goal is, and always has been, to be our customers’ best partner in finding ample freight capacity and in controlling costs.

This year we have also seen a greater demand for more environmentally friendly transport options, which is wholly in line with Begoma’s vision. We are constantly working to develop shipping solutions with less climate impact. We offer intermodal transport, conventional rail, and short-sea containers within Europe to build smart and sustainable logistics solutions for our customers. Excitingly, we are currently working with our partners to create all-electric trucking solutions.

So how do we finish off 2022? Well, we can see that Begoma has promisingly increased its turnover this year and that our family-owned business has continued to grow, through investments in industrial properties in Malmö, and by integrating the furniture manufacturer Malmö Möbelfabrik as a group company. We also look ahead to the year 2023, when Begoma celebrates 25 years, and our journey from a local Malmö freight forwarder to a major international freight forwarding company with operations in several countries will continue. I’m looking forward to that.

And lastly…

From our family to yours, we wish you a very merry Christmas and an excellent start to an exciting new year!

Henrik Malmberg, Managing Director
