Begoma and Schmitz Cargobull launch new fuel-efficient semi-trailer at Elmia

Fuel savings of more than 10 percent. A major step towards more efficient road transport. The new Berger Ecotrail with Ecofix, developed in cooperation between Begoma and Schmitz Cargobull, will be presented to the market at Elmia Lastbil in Jönköping.

“Our new trailer challenges conventional road transport, where short and predictable lead times are essential, but where finding more climate-friendly alternatives has so far been difficult. It is the first of its kind and delivers significant fuel savings for conventional road freight, something the market has been asking for for a long time,” says Erik Malmberg, Traffic Director at Begoma.

The new trailer is equipped with one axle fewer than conventional trailers, reducing its own weight and allowing for increased load capacity. By combining a Berger chassis with Ecofix from Schmitz Cargobull, an aerodynamically designed rear section, fuel consumption is reduced by more than 10 percent compared with conventional trailers.

The use of side skirts from Dymaxa further improves fuel efficiency.

“This is a major step forward. I have personally never seen anyone implement this type of solution before. This trailer is at the forefront, both from a cost and climate perspective,” says Jimmy Valfridsson, Area Sales Manager at Schmitz Cargobull.

There is currently one Berger Ecotrail with Ecofix in operation, specifically developed for Begoma’s traffic between Sweden and Italy. It is equipped with a coil well to enable the transport of steel from Sweden, while retaining full capacity for conventional loading to optimise import freight on the return journey.

The new Berger Ecotrail with Ecofix will be presented at Elmia Lastbil in Jönköping, at stand U501:22, from 19 to 22 August. Representatives from both Begoma and Schmitz Cargobull will be on site.

After Elmia Lastbil, the new trailer will enter service in Begoma’s traffic between Italy and Sweden.
